Fatima Taibo from Braamfischer near Roodepoort is a former class of 2019 student from Gibela programme. She completed her grade 12 in 2016 at Kgatelopele Secondary School and enrolled for NCV course at South West Gauteng TVET College (Molapo campus) in 2017. She joined the Gibela project in 2018 and that year she was one of the best 5 performing students in the three campuses (Molapo, Daveyton and Mamelodi) that the project is doing intervention class at, obtaining 84% in mathematics NCV 3. She received bursary organised by the Gibela programme to finish her NCV 4 and completed the course in January 2020. She is currently doing her apprenticeships at Mscartisan Company.

Mandisa Prudence Mlambo

Mandisa Prudence Mlambo a former Gibela project student class of 2018 student from dumbe village in Kwazulu Natal. she completed Grade 12 in 2016 at Khanyanjalo Secondary School in dumbe village. She enrolled for NC(V) Course electrical engineering at Ekurhuleni East TVET College (Daveyton Campus), joined the Gibela programme in 2017 when she was doing NCV 3 and was one of the best performing students obtained three distinctions including mathematics. Mandisa completed her NC(V)Certificate studies in 2018 and register for Nated course (N2) at Ekurhuleni East TVET College (Benoni Campus), whilst doing N3 she got an apprenticeship at Kwazulu Natal Department of Human settlement. She is currently doing her second year as an Electrical Engineering apprentice at that Department.

Ayanda Xaba after completed her Grade 12 in 2015 at Seanamarena High School in Mapetla Soweto, she registered for NCV Course at South West Gauteng TVET College (Molapo Campus) and joined Gibela programme in 2018 when she was doing NCV 3. Ayanda obtained three distinctions including mathematics that year and finished her NCV course in 2019.She is a former Gibela programme student class of 2019, presently she is doing Nated course N4 at Molapo campus. My name is Freddie Michael Mkhondo from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni. I wasn’t good in mathematics when I was attending high school passed my grade 12 with poor marks.

I registered for NCV course (Engineering Related Design) at Ekurhuleni East TVET College and Joined Gibela programme in the year of 2018.That year I lost my mother and Sister I wanted to drop out at the college but the Programme helped me to realize that the is more to life than dropping out. I proceeded with my studies passing NCV level 3 with four distinctions including mathematics with 81%. I received the bursary organised by Gibela project to completed my NCV course in 2019 obtaining one distinction –boiler making 85%.

The Gibela programme taught me to learn the art of patience, they told me that impatience breeds anxiety, fear and failure, and patience creates confidence, decisiveness ad rational outlook which eventually will lead to success. This year (2020) I am currently doing Nated Course (N4) in Mechanical Engineering at Ekurhuleni East TVET College (Daveyton campus). Freddie Michael Mkhondo is a former Gibela programme student class of 2019.

Gloria Mamphoke Makofane from a rural area of Ga-maila segolo near Jane furse in Limpopo Province is a former class of 2018 student from Gibela TVET programme and also Gibela bursary recipient, she told the audience during the Youth Squared-Daring to be Different that she did not do pure maths at High School because was struggling with the subject, but after completing her matric. Gloria enroll for NCV course at Ekurhuleni East TVET College (Daveyton Campus).

She passed all 7 subject in NCV 2 obtaining four distinctions including Maths and join Gibela programme in 2017 and was one of the top 5 performed students at three Gibela Project Campuses (Daveyton, Mamelodi and Molapo) obtaining a distinction in Mathematics NCV 3 and finished her NCV course in 2018.

Gloria was awarded a Gibela bursary to further her Engineering studies and enrolled for Nated course in 2019.She completed her N6 certificate last year December obtained 75% in Maths and again she was the best performed students at Daveyton campus. Now she’s got a Learnership at Ekurhuleni East Tvet College Training Centre,

Monde Msipha

Monde Msipha from Molapo Soweto, I matriculated at PQ Vundla Community College at Molapo was doing Mathematics-Science stream and I wasn’t performing well in those two subject, however I managed to pass my grade 12 even though my marks were not that good. In 2018 I enrolled at South West Gauteng TVET College (Molapo Campus) to study NCV course (Engineering and Related Design).

Then 2019 when I was doing NCV Level 3 my lecture advised me to join Gibela programme. Gibela Lecturers promised to help us with applying for bursary if we perform well and the programme helped me to passed all seven subjects in NCV 3 obtained a distinction in mathematics as a result of attending the extra classes. Fortunately, I was accepted by one of the bursaries from Gibela programme to continue with my studies. I am currently doing NCV level 4 at SWGC Molapo Campus, I’m humbled and grateful to the Gibela programme for helping me in achieving my goals. Monde Msipha is a Gibela programme student class of 2020.

Lethabo she is a NCV 4 student from Tshwane North TVET College (Mamelodi campus) and also Gibela TVET programme student class of 2020. She passed grade 12 in 2016 at Vlakfontein Secondary School-Mamelodi West near Pretoria.

She joined the Gibela programme last year-2019, and the programme helped her to improve the mathematics marks from 64% in (NCV level 2) to 82% in (NCV level 3). Last year 2019 she was one of the best ten Gibela programme students that obtained the distinctions in mathematics.

I Siphesihle Sibuya picture (Left) when I joined the Gibela TVET programme in 2017, little did I know that the programme would help me to perform so well obtained 4 distinctions including in mathematics and I received an award as the best NCV 3 Student in Electrical Department at the 2017 Ekurhuleni East TVET College’s award. Gibela programme did not assisted me academically only, also with application for bursary. The bursary helped me financially to complete my NCV course.

I have learnt a motivational lesson during Youth Squared-Daring to be Different organized by Gibela programme in 2018 that I will forever cherish. Thank you Gibela and Maths Centre

Thando Mashinini from Senaoane in Soweto is a NCV 4 student from South West Gauteng TVET College (Molapo campus) and also Gibela TVET programme student class of 2020.

I was doing maths-science stream in grade 10 at Senaoane Secondary School, then in grade 11 My Maths-teacher advised me to change to maths literacy because I was struggling in mathematics. I went on doing Maths Literacy until I completed grade 12 in 2014.

After matric I applied at various universities but was rejected because of I did not have pure maths in grade 12 results. I was so hurt and disappointed, I decided to stay at home doing nothing for 3 years just playing basketball.

In 2018 January my friend advised me to apply at South West Gauteng TVET College and I went there got accepted for NCV course Civil Engineering. Now I had to do pure Maths and at this point in my life wanted to do something else except pure Maths.

At first it wasn't easy but I managed to pass NCV level 2 with 54% in mathematics and I Joined Gibela programme in NCV level 3, the programme helped me to believe in myself and I managed to get 80% (distinction) in Mathematics.

She attended high school at Seanamarena High School in Mapetla Soweto, there after she registered for NCV Course at South West Gauteng TVET College (Molapo Campus) and joined Gibela programme in 2017 when she was doing NCV 3. She passed all subject obtaining a distinction in mathematics. Happiness finished her NCV course in 2018 and currently she is doing Nated course (N4) at Molapo campus.

Edionetta Ntsane from Daveyton in Ekurhuleni is a class of 2020 student from Gibela programme. last year 2019 she obtained 89% in mathematics more than all Gibela cohort-students.

I Edionetta Ntsane currently studying NCV level 4 at Ekurhuleni East TVET College (Daveyton Campus), I passed all seven subject in NCV level 2 and got 71% in Mathematics which I was not happy with since I aimed high for Mathematics. Last year 2019 I joined Gibela programme, the programme helped me to achieve my goal of getting a distinction in Mathematics. I passed all seven subject again obtaining 3 distinctions including 89% in mathematics.

Nonkululeko Madonsela from Pongola in Kwazulu Natal is a class of 2020 student from Gibela programme.

She joined the programme last year-2019 and she was one of the best ten Gibela programme students that obtained the distinctions in mathematics. the programme helped her to improve the mathematics marks from 72% in (NCV level 2) to 80% in (NCV level 3).

Jonas Mohlala from Mmakgatle village 215 km to Polokwane in Limpopo Province is a NCV 4 student from Ekurhuleni East TVET College (Daveyton Campus) and also class of 2020 student for Gibela TVET programme.

He completed grade 12 at Hututu high school in Mmakgatle village, there after he enrolled for NCV Course Electrical Engineering at Ekurhuleni East TVET College (Daveyton Campus) and joined Gibela programme in 2019 when he was doing NCV 3. Jonas passed all seven subject obtaining two distinction including 83 % in mathematics.

Betty Hlamasi Lubisi from Komartiport in Mpumalanga is a class of 2019 student for Gibela programme

I Betty Hlamasi Lubisi completed grade 12 at David Dabede Mabuza Commercial High School in Komartiport Mpumalanga year 2015, I did not perform well in maths and science obtaining level 2 and level 1 respectively. In 2016 I decided to upgrade that two subject again and got level 3 in maths and level 2 in science.

2017 I enrolled for NCV course in Electrical Engineering at Ekurhuleni East TVET College (Daveyton Campus). I passed all my seven subject in NCV 2 and then join Gibela Programme in 2018 just to improve my mathematics marks. I had many challenges as I was struggling in mathematics.

The Programme really helped me a lot because my NCV 3 mathematics improved to 87%. I finished my NCV course in 2019 where I got 67% in mathematics.

This year Gibela Programme assisted me with application for bursary to further my Nated studies.

Itumeleng Monthato from Soweto told the audience that after finishing grade 12, he was forced to work for 3 years instead of furthering his studies due to his family’s financial background. And he did not let that to deter him from following his dream of become an Artisan, he then quit his job and enrolled at South West Gauteng TVET College (Molapo Campus) to pursue his dream. He joined the Gibela programme in 2019. He was one of the best 10 performing students from all NCV 3 Gibela cohort-students. And he received bursary organised by the Gibela programme to finish his NCV 4 course. Itumeleng Monthato is a class of 2020 student for Gibela programme from Molapo campus
